HubTV interview with Chip Foose

December 16, 2008

Overhaulin’ host and Hub-master Chris Jacobs caught up with Chip Foose on the final day of Sema 2008 and put together this interview.

Lots of insight into Foose Design’s busy schedule and future plans. One interesting comment re: Overhaulin’; When discussing last year’s crazy build Chip says, “What a way to go out!”.  Read into that what you will.

Catching up with AJ

Adrienne Janic and her Year One 68 Firebird

Adrienne Janic and her Year One '68 Firebird

Former Overhaulin’ co-host Adrienne Janic (AJ) recently completed a sweet ride of her own; a 1968 Pontiac Firebird built by the guys at Year-One’s Ghostworks garage. The complete build is featured in the October issue of PHR magazine and can be read here.

Here are the quick facts: A GM Performance LS3 crate motor mounted to a Bowler 4 speed automatic, blown through custom stainless headers to MagnaFlow mufflers. Detroit Speed hydroformed front clip and Quadralink rear suspension. Baer 6 piston calipers w/ 14″ rotors behind 18″ Intro V-Rod wheels wrapped in BF Goodrich tires.

Nice to see AJ’s still got that hot rod itch.

Prankin’ Foose on Overhaulin’

August 12, 2008

I was browsing YouTube today during a break at work and ran across this video. It’s presumably an excerpt filmed during the CNN Hummer“Warrior One” episode. I don’t remember seeing it during the show (but sometimes my memory isn’t so good). In it, airbrush artist extraordinaire, Dru Blair, fools Chip with a little help from the A-Team.

Pretty impressive!

Foose Featured at West Coast Nationals

July 30, 2008

August 22-24th will see the Goodguys West Coast Nationals roll into Pleasanton, CA. This year’s show will feature an appearance by automotive designer Chip Foose. This local article promoting the show is pretty standard Foose bio stuff, but there is this line of interest relating to the possibility of a 6th season of Overhaulin’:

“Overhaulin’” is a car-restoration show that is in negotiations to have its sixth season air on the Discovery Channel.

That’s it. Nothing concrete or too substantial, but it does suggest that the show may return. And, as patient fans of Overhaulin’ have learned, any news is better than no news. So, if you’re planning to be in the Bay area the weekend of the show, stop by and ask Chip for yourself (then let the rest of us know what’s happening).

Foose Coupes Hit the Street

July 28, 2008

Foose Coupe

Edmunds reported last week that the long-awaited Foose Coupe has been delivered to the first customer. The Hemisfear inspired supercar will be limited to a production run of 50 vehicles. One can be yours for a mere $300,000.

So, what do you get for that money? How about a fully custom carbon fiber body pushed by a 6.4L V-8 Hemi cranking 500hp and 480ft/lbs of torque? Plus, a one-on-one design session with Chip Foose to personally choose interior and exterior colors and graphic layout.

Superformance Distribution of Irvine, CA is now handling distribution of the cars for Foose Design, since the highly publicised scandal at Unique Performance in TX forced the seizure of the company’s inventory and subsequent shut-down of the shop’s operations.

New Show on the Horizon?

July 24, 2008

Well, the 5th season of Overhaulin’ was short and sweet. If you missed any of the 8 new episodes I wouldn’t be surprised, since TLC spent NO time promoting them. Fear not, however, as I’m sure they will all be re-run for the next few months. Check them out. The new format didn’t always live up to its potential, but it definitely got better as the season progressed. The final overhaul of the season (the SEMA show) was a high point.

So…what now? Will the show return for season 6? Maybe. Word from insiders is that Chip Foose has been in discussions with TLC as well as some other networks about continuing the show.

Or…there’s this: our internet-scavaging tipster, Lynn, came across this article profiling Foose during the recent Atlantic Nationals in Moncton, NB, Canada. The interesting part is found around the 8th paragraph:

Foose says he is now working on scripts for a new series that will follow the theme of turning  people’s dream cars into reality. He won’t talk about specifics because the shows are only in the scripting stage.

Interesting. Stay tuned…
